The unauthorized Saved by the Bell story on Hulu

    Today Saturday, May 20, 2023 we are going to be getting into the documentary called the unauthorized saved by the Bell story. This is for those 90s kids who are such a big fan and for people who are fan now of the old series and maybe even the new series that they have on Peacock. 

I myself growing up remember all the time seeing saved by the bell whether was before school, or after school or on summer vacations, and even as a doll, I still see the show replaying all the time it is one of my favorite shows. It reminds me of my Corky, weird, awkward, bLERD childhood. 

    So this film is in the genre of comedy/documentary it was released in 2014

The duration of the movie is one hour and 30 minutes long

    So the cast that plays our favorite 90s hi school TV show saved by the bell are a bunch of up-and-coming talented actors. Some of the cast include(Dylan Everett is Zach, Julian Works A.C. Slater. Taylor Russell as a Lark Voorhies.

So this is a lifetime original doc you series but fortunately for you, you can check it out on Hulu if you have a subscription 

    So let’s get into the producers and riders real quick and get their credit out where it’s due  the Director is Jason Lapeyre the producer is Harvey Kahn 

No I am writing this as I am about to watch this and I will keep riding all the way through so from what I can tell it is giving a pretty low score because the rotten tomatoes gave it a 20% and I went on  into it and I saw that it had a 2 1/2 stars so let’s get into it and watch it or maybe I’ll watch it first and then let you know what’s going on lol JKJk FRFR 

We start off with a B roll with the title of the scene showing the setting of the time which is 1990 and they are in Cincinnati so basically the kids are sitting in a limbo, looking kind of distant and confused so I’m trying to figure out what’s going on So essentially, they were worried and I couldn’t figure out why and then next thing you know repair into the character that played screech, trying to chime in on them talking because they were thinking that nobody was going to show up to the meet and greet. They were concerned about them being canceled again and then Bri says guys look and there’s a ton of people standing out there waiting for them to pull up in their limousine screaming with signs. It is a fan frenzy, bonanza frenzy, bonanza.

 

    And I have to mention is it seems like several of the kids were coupled up like they were dating or something which I’ve heard rumors and saw documentaries about this before on YouTube so we’ll see what happens 

So, as the Crazy cray is going on, the fans are screaming, grabbing their clothes or signing autographs. Next thing you know you’re thinking to sell "Oh My God" they’re going to enter in this building and take autographs and answer questions, and maybe even go into the actually have a live saved by the bell Zack pauses everything and says times out and he says it looks like they really like those and I think to myself Honey what is happening here really dude it’s gonna be one of those movies where he’s a third person I like those are the movies. I just didn’t feel like this was gonna be one of those. The next thing you know what Zack is delivering the dialogue screech comes in and cut them off and says hold up stop wait a minute this time it’s not all about you. I don’t like the shade is real in this movie we haven’t even been 10 minutes it

Then the movie officially starts and the time day is 1988

So essentially let out some tea within the first few seconds of the scene, saying the truth is at save by the bell was not even supposed to be about the students, and I thought to myself was well. What was it supposed to be about because it’s legendary when it comes to the whole character Story of the students coming together and having their lives together.

And he said this is the character who supposed to be playing screech that it was supposed to be about the teachers rather than the students

So when are we pitching the show there was a executive who was talking about his favorite teacher and how the teacher made him feel and the other people were saying yeah this could be a show about teachers in a grade school and a school that we all wish we could’ve gone to some thing that the family would love. This was supposed to be the Premise of saved by the bell before they changed it.

Song we enter into them reading, and getting ready for the cats called to see who is going to get each particular role and sweetest talking about how his father had to travel an hour there in an hour back and he hated the speech, but he didn’t know that it was going to be so worth it then we see the character who plays Zack playing Zack. That’s a whole confusing thing is looking at Lark Voorhies with these eyes of just pure love and light and crush it was too cute and I always knew the character who played Zack had a thing for black girls I always knew and they prove me right when he got in that show with Tracy Ellis Ross as her husband, but anyway, that’s not even the point of this lol

So basically, my character, who’s playing screech wanted to relax with one of the characters who’s playing Zack and the guy was like no that’s not my process but then he asked the character who is we know to be Zack now if you would realize it was like sure a cool, and then they called them back for a reading of the script

Oh my god so here’s the tea so when they were reading the Scripps Lark, Voorhies was reading for Lisa turtle as we know she got the role as Lisa turtle, but we didn’t know or at least what I didn’t know is that when she was reading her lines for Lisa turtle There was some talks behind the scenes about the fact that she was reading for her and they had a problem with that because she was supposed to be a Jewish American princess. They had a problem with the fact that she was black, but the producer was like so she’s gonna be black now lol.

It just proves when you have talent. When you possess confidence and you go for it baby you can do anything.

So when they were in the line, they were not reading for saved by the Bell. They were actually reading for a so-called good morning Miss Bliss, and when they were really lines that’s where Zack and Stretch got there start the networks start it off on NBC originally but then they pass on the show but then luckily, the Disney Channel had just started a few years before that, and decided to give them a chance 

So unfortunately, five months later, Disney Channel to sided to cancel Miss Bliss

They cancel the show because they realize that I show about the adults would not work. They just wanted to see the kids so they decided to move it back to the last TV station. It was on and make the show about the kids instead of being in Indianapolis, they were gonna make it in California on the first they were gonna call the show when the bell rings instead of saved by the Bell.

So in 1989 that’s when they started getting the callbacks that they were going to start the show back up as a new shop. During this time he started casting calls looking for the other characters because they already had Zack screech and Lisa so they were looking for AC Slater, Kelly, Jessie and well the rest of them

So an interesting thing was that the Kelly character was audition for by the person who played Kelly and the person who played Jesse but of course we know who got to be Kelly in the end, but the character who Jesse was actually adult dancer in real life I guess that’s why she did that movie that we should not name but we don’t know we all know 

    Also unbeknownst to me, the character who played Kelly in real life, was the cover girl model of the year. I didn’t know she was the cover girl model of the year but I thought you would think I definitely believe it. Because on the show saved by the Bell, she was gorgeous. In fact, they all were gorgeous.

     There was a bit of a discrepancy with AC Slater’s character as well. They expect him to be in Italian character and not a Latino person, but come on who else, but Maria could play that character the way he did. 

     Elizabeth, who plays Jessie originally wanted the character of Kelly but here’s the thing I didn’t go to her and they didn’t have another character. It was supposed to be three guys and two girls but because they let her so much, they decided to write a character just specifically for her

So when they came back to do their meeting with all the cast there. Justin was expecting to go in just like he did when he went to the last show and be able to go for around and have fun but it was completely different because they were many more kids and there was more of a distraction and he felt left alone and vulnerable. He was already going through things at school when he was getting bullied and him going to see what about his dad had to go over there an hour back and then wait on him while he was acting. It was a lot.

 

 Dustin was disappointing because when he originally got the car back he thought it was gonna be centered around himself and Zach as characters but we wanna happened was it was completely centered around Zach

So initially, they were concerned about the shooting and practicing of the lines during rehearsal because some of the kids had never shot in front of a live audience. They were concerned the show was going to be a complete disaster.

Woes of the characters were talking about their history, and so the character who plays AC Slater, was saying how he couldn’t understand why Zack couldn’t relate to his character he said whoa this is the character Zack he saying I don’t relate to the character Zack completely because I’m nothing like them. My father is Dutch and my mom is Indonesian and I remember looking at the scene and seeing a woman of color he was sitting next to but I wasn’t sure who it was and it is his mom so he is mixed. That is news. Good news what’s the news?

He was the first member of his family as well to be born in America, so he was first generation y’all 

So they had a part when you say well your hair is not really blonde either and then a cut to the scene where he is dying his hair blonde. Oh my god oh my God. When it comes to casting the character, who looks like Dustin looks exactly like Dustin and the character who plays Mario sounds like Mario, but AnyWho when they were talking about how the show originally started and its first few episodes, there was so much hate in the newspapers about the show, because they hated them due to the fact that they thought that the show was just a bunch of beautiful kids, and the crazy thing was four months later that got canceled again I want you to know on top that screech had a problem playing the counter squeaks because he felt like he was too nerdy

Then, next thing you know, the ratings went up again because all the kids fell in love with the show and now we flashback to the beginning scene where they go and see all these kids with their size. It is a wraparound y’all.

So the frenzy was so crazy that they wound up ripping Zacks shirt and security guards have to shove him into the area where they need to be at so they can get them away from all the screaming crazy fans. We flash forward to a big meeting where they are talking about how the show is doing so well and they’re bringing in millions and millions of dollars and they are doing great as a show but they have an issue. The issue is that there are several magazines that the kids were in showing them in an unwholesome late so they said they need to do anything to protect the image of the kids by keeping them from doing anything that was not wholesome and of course you know they were signed to the Disney Channel and Disney Channel does not play about that. But at the time this was in the Disney Channel, this is another channel but they want to keep the kids wholesome

 

    now let’s talk about Zach that got into a bunch of 

arguments with his mother about the fact that he wanted to have control of his money he felt like he was earning all this money thousands and thousands of dollars and he was an able to have control of his money because his mom would only give him $20 in allowance to the fact that she wanted to save the money so he could have money for his future and not to spend it all willy-nilly, but he was upset because he wanted to buy a car because he was 16 and his mother told him just because you are famous and bringing in a lot of money honey. It’s not gonna change. Do you need to be grounded again his mom did not play his mom was a woman of color and she was not about to let that go down.

 

    Hold up I’m about to cry y’all, but I had to say this, so there was a scene where all the girls were in a store just shopping and doing normal teenage things as cast members but also as friends and so there are two friends who came up to them and told them how much they loved the show and they felt like they knew them in real life and asked if that was crazy and the girls reply no it’s not crazy. We really love you guys and all that good stuff and so the girl said well the episode that you told ,Zack that he was wrong for lying to you and you broke up with him really helped me . I went out the next day and broke up with my boyfriend and they were like wow so the show really helps you and so they decided to talk to the guys about changing the narrative of the show so it could help the people who watched a show and tackle more issues that teenagers go through but the guys were kind of scared to go into that arena because they wanted to just have a lighthearted, fun show.

 

They felt good about this the momentum of their energy convinced the guys to go along with them. They said they wanted to convince the writers of the blogs in the newspapers and magazines that they were not just dumb kids, but they really had a message in the show was about something. It wasn’t just about a bunch of dumb kids doing high school antics

So we’re going to get into Lark Voorhies OK we talked about Mark Vorhees a little bit but her character was very much distant and it was because her mother had a very big hold on her and she does suffer from mental health issues. I done some research on her and she has mental health and social issues that can sometimes make her a bit distant. She’s not really like the character Lisa turtle but she’s definitely a dope actor and she has a great energy to her when you break down the shell and the wall that she’s built around herself to protect her self so if there’s one scene Zach offer is Lisa turtle a birthday gift and she said well why I don’t like to celebrate my birthday, but then she breaks down that wall and start smiling, because she was happy to get something special from her boo. Which they were dating in real life they were in this cute little couple and they liked each other from the first time they saw each other. It was just love it first sight.

She tells him although I’m not really supposed to because Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t really celebrate birthdays or most holidays 

 

So basically, during this moment, Mark was telling him how much there were things that she wants to do that she know that she’s not supposed to and then they were about the kids, but I’m fortunately the character who plays Jesse came in and stopped it, and then next thing you know, we flash forward to the character playing Kelly coming in to a different scene and telling him about the kids that they have to do and now they’re having to practice, which is going to make things more confusing for the character who plays Zack because Now he has another woman in the mix

This situation calls a bunch a entanglement situation. I mean when I tell you there was a whore moans and arguments blowing everywhere. It was ridiculous. 

And 9091 they were in their third season facing syndication 

Justin, Justin started hitting the bottle pretty heavily and was getting into a lot of trouble and on top of that they had to go to promote the show so they wound up, going to different places so many kids went to Paris. Some of them went to Miami. Some of them went to New York with Dustin got stuck in North Carolina .
